FMK – 9C1 G2 9mm Pistol

By IPC

This past winter and spring I did a lot of traveling and testing of equipment and firearms. One of the more recent pistols I have tested is the FMK 9C1 G2. It is a compact 9mm pistol platform manufactured in California. FMK also manufactures the 40C1 G2, which is chambered in .40S&W. However, the focus of this article is the 9C1 G2.

To put it bluntly, I have to say that I enjoy this fine made-in-the-USA pistol. I admit that I am a sucker for any firearm or knife that is fully manufactured in the US. It just makes me feel a little more proud when I am using the product.
The FMK 9C1 G2 is a compact 9mm pistol that reminds me of a Glock in some ways, but personally the FMK fits my hands better. It is well-made and shoots accurately. Since I received the 9C1, I have run over 1,000 rounds of brass and steel cased ammo through the pistol without cleaning it. It has not had any jams and has run very smoothly after the break-in period. When I finally cleaned the pistol after testing, it disassembled and re-assembled easily for cleaning.
FMK has made some improvements in the last several months that I enjoy. FMK has introduced the ELITE trigger and some small adjustments to the grip.  They have recently introduced a tactical version of the 9C1 called the ELITE, which includes the ELITE trigger, updated grip, an optics slot in the slide, and an optic. This new tactical version also comes with a threaded barrel and suppressor sights, although this is currently available for the 9mm only. I checked out the new pistol at the IWA Show in Germany back in March. The new trigger is a definite improvement for those who like a shorter, more sensitive trigger and the grip texture is a little more aggressive for better control.
The 9C1 has two different magazine capacities, a 14 round and a 10 round for California compliance. There are also two trigger choices, a FAT or Fast Action Trigger and a DAO, Double Action Only. The FAT is the standard trigger and the DAO meets the CA and MA requirements for pistols. The new ELITE trigger is an upgrade for the FAT and is easily changed at home. The new tactical version of the pistol has the ELITE trigger as standard.
One nice choice that FMK offers is the color of the pistol you can order. There are ten (ten!) different colors to choose from. The common colors that have become standard over the last few years, black, OD, and FDE. But there are also colors like gray, brick red, pink, and jay blue. The wide variety of colors has increased the appeal of the pistol, particularly with women. Personally, I like the brick red. There is also a very patriotic option that has the Bill of Rights engraved on the slide.
One minor downside to this great pistol is that it is a bit hard to find holsters for it. FMK has a couple different colors and styles of leather and kydex holsters in their Shop page. However, if you are like me and prefer more customized modular holsters, there is a convenient list of holster manufacturers on the FMK website. Also, there is a definite break-in period. I did not have any major hang ups or jams while shooting the 9C1, but it just did not seem to run as smoothly as it could have out of the box. After about 400 rounds of 9mm, the pistol smoothed out and it has run flawlessly ever since.
It is a good shooting pistol, but it does take a bit of a break-in period. Overall, it is a good pistol and FMK has many colors (for the girls too) to choose from. It is a reliable pistol and I have enjoyed shooting it.
